We know “Privacy Policy” sounds like something you scroll past. But if you use our site—our tools, our calculators, our articles—this page explains honestly what data is collected, why, and what rights you have over it. We’ve written it like a human being, not a legal robot.
1. Who We Are
Grow With Hydroponics is an educational website for indoor growers. We publish growing guides, run 12 free hydroponic tools, and share plant science in plain language. The site is operated by Dr. Awais Yousaf, based in Pakistan. When this policy says “we”, “us”, or “Grow With Hydroponics”, that’s who we’re referring to.
For the purposes of data protection law (including GDPR), Dr. Awais Yousaf / Grow With Hydroponics is the data controller responsible for this website.
2. What Data We Collect
a) What you give us directly
If you fill out our contact form, we collect your name, email address, and whatever message you choose to send. That’s it. We don’t run a membership system or require you to create an account to use any of our tools.
b) What we collect automatically
Like almost every website, we collect some technical information when you browse. This includes your approximate IP address, browser type, device type, which pages you visit, how long you spend on them, and which tools you interact with. We use this to understand how the site is being used and to improve it.
c) Cookies
We use cookies—small files stored by your browser—to help the site work properly and to support our analytics and advertising. You can manage or disable cookies at any time through your browser settings. Our cookie consent banner gives you control over non-essential cookies when you first arrive.
3. Why We Use Your Data
We use the data we collect to:
- Keep the website working reliably and securely
- Improve our tools (the DLI calculator, VPD calculator, nutrient planners, etc.)
- Respond to your messages and enquiries
- Understand what content and tools are most useful to our readers
- Display relevant advertising through Google AdSense
- Comply with our legal obligations
Legal basis for processing (GDPR—for readers in the European Economic Area):
- Consent — for analytics and advertising cookies, collected via our cookie banner
- Legitimate interests—for website security, fraud prevention, and improving our tools
- Contract/pre-contract — for responding to enquiries you initiate through our contact form
You can withdraw consent for cookie-based processing at any time by updating your cookie preferences or contacting us.
4. Sharing Your Data
We do not sell your personal data. We never have, and we never will. However, we do work with a small number of trusted third-party services that process data on our behalf in order to keep the site running. These include:
- Google Analytics—to understand how visitors use the site (data processed in the US under Google’s Standard Contractual Clauses)
- Google AdSense—to display advertising (see Section 5)
- Our web hosting provider—to serve the website
- Email tools—to manage contact form submissions
All third-party processors are subject to data processing agreements and are only permitted to use your data for the specific services they provide to us. We don’t share your data with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
We may also disclose information if required to do so by law, court order, or legal process.
5. Google AdSense & Advertising Cookies
We use Google AdSense to display advertisements on this website. Google uses cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites. This is called interest-based (or personalised) advertising.
You can opt out of personalised advertising at any time. Visit adssettings.google.com to manage your Google ad preferences. You can also opt out via the Network Advertising Initiative at optout.networkadvertising.org, or via aboutads.info.
For more information on how Google uses data when you use sites that use its services, visit: google.com/policies/privacy/partners.
If you have disabled personalised ads, you may still see ads—they just won’t be tailored to your interests.
6. Data Retention
We only keep your personal data for as long as is necessary for the purposes described in this policy. Specifically:
- Contact form submissions: retained for up to 12 months, then deleted
- Google Analytics data: retained for 14 months, as configured in our GA4 property
- Cookie data: session cookies expire when you close your browser; persistent cookies typically expire within 12–24 months depending on the cookie
You can request deletion of any personal data we hold at any time by emailing us.
7. International Data Transfers
Our website uses Google Analytics and Google AdSense, both of which may transfer and store your data in the United States. Google participates in the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and employs Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission as the legal safeguard for these international transfers.
By using this site, you acknowledge that your data may be processed outside your country of residence, including in countries with different data protection laws than your own.
8. Data Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data from unauthorised access, loss, or misuse. Our site is served over HTTPS (encrypted), and access to any personal data we hold is restricted.
That said, no system is 100% secure. We can’t guarantee the absolute security of data transmitted over the internet, and you use the site at your own risk in that regard. If you have any concerns about a security issue, please contact us immediately.
9. Children’s Privacy
Grow With Hydroponics is intended for general audiences, primarily adults interested in indoor gardening and hydroponics. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under the age of 16 (or 13 where local law permits a lower threshold, such as under US COPPA regulations).
If you believe a child has submitted personal information to us, please contact us at info@growwithhydroponics.com and we will delete it promptly.
10. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have significant rights over your personal data. Under GDPR (for EEA and UK residents), these include:
- Access—request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Rectification—ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data
- Erasure—request that we delete your personal data (the “right to be forgotten”)
- Restriction—ask us to pause or limit how we process your data
- Portability—receive your data in a structured, portable format
- Object—object to processing based on legitimate interests or for direct marketing
- Withdraw consent—at any time, where processing is based on your consent
- Complaint—lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority (e.g. the ICO in the UK, or your country’s supervisory authority in the EU)
To exercise any of these rights, email us at info@growwithhydroponics.com. We will respond within 30 days, as required by law.
11. Updates to This Policy
We’ll update this Privacy Policy as our site grows, our tools evolve, or the law changes. When we do, we’ll update the “Last Updated” date at the top of this page. We won’t notify you individually of minor changes, but if we make any significant changes to how we use your data, we’ll make that visible.
